Where to throw it › Used clothes and shoes
Where do used clothes and shoes go?
Clean clothes, shoes and accessories in good condition go in the used-clothing containers (often yellow) or to the recycling centre; many municipalities hand them over to charities.
What to do
- Put them in a closed bag, clean and dry, with shoes paired up.
- Very worn or dirty items: in some municipalities they go in residual waste, in others they can be handed in anyway; ask the operator.
What to avoid
- Do not leave bags outside the containers: it counts as littering.
Why it varies from municipality to municipality
Where the containers are and what they accept depends on who manages them. Each municipality chooses with its operator which bins to use and what can go in them.
This page summarises a general, cautious rule: the real rules vary from municipality to municipality and from operator to operator (colour of bags, accepted waste, days, collection points). If in doubt, what your municipality or the service operator indicates prevails.
