Where to throw it › Disposable masks and gloves
Where do disposable masks and gloves go?
In general they go in residual waste (secco residuo, the non-recyclable bin), in a closed bag.
What to do
- Close the bag before throwing it away.
- If you have particular health instructions (for example for people in isolation), follow those of the municipality or the health authority.
What to avoid
- They do not go in plastic or paper, even if they are made of plastic or non-woven fabric.
- They must not be left in the street.
Why it varies from municipality to municipality
In particular cases the municipality may give different instructions. Each municipality chooses with its operator which bins to use and what can go in them.
This page summarises a general, cautious rule: the real rules vary from municipality to municipality and from operator to operator (colour of bags, accepted waste, days, collection points). If in doubt, what your municipality or the service operator indicates prevails.
Check your municipality's rules
Search for your municipality to see the collection calendar, the recycling centre's opening hours and, where available, the link to the official guide.
