Where to throw it › Aerosol cans
Where do aerosol cans go?
If they are completely empty and without hazard symbols, in many municipalities they go with plastic and metals; if they still contain product or carry hazard symbols they go to the recycling centre.
What to do
- Check the label: hazard symbols (flammable, toxic, corrosive) mean the recycling centre is needed.
- Empty them completely, using the product right to the end.
What to avoid
- Do not pierce them, do not crush them and do not throw them on a fire.
Why it varies from municipality to municipality
Not all municipalities accept them in mixed materials: check the local guide. Each municipality chooses with its operator which bins to use and what can go in them.
This page summarises a general, cautious rule: the real rules vary from municipality to municipality and from operator to operator (colour of bags, accepted waste, days, collection points). If in doubt, what your municipality or the service operator indicates prevails.
Check your municipality's rules
Search for your municipality to see the collection calendar, the recycling centre's opening hours and, where available, the link to the official guide.
